The paper treats models of a Josephson junction of the superconductor -- normal metal -- superconductor type, based on a system of Ginzburg-Landau equations (GL). Various limit cases are considered in detail, including cases of small thickness of the normal-metal layer, and of a large Ginzburg-Landau number ( which is a ratio of the penetration length to the correlation length). It is demonstrated that solutions to asymptotic systems of the GL equations which apply in these limit cases can be obtained, in the same asymptotic regimes, from solutions of the general GL-equation systems. Additionally, a number of numerical results are presented, which display various patterns of the distribution of the GL order parameter, and explicitly demonstrate the transition from general to asymptotic solutions with the variation of the corresponding control parameter.
