The integral balance laws of continuous systems with an interface are obtained as a limit of balance laws relative to a suitable three- dimensional continuum. This approach supplies a physical interpretation of the quantities appearing in the balance laws and dodges around the non-invariance under Galilean transformations of angular momentum balance.
