This paper studies the analyticity of the solution of a pair of differential equations (DEs) related to a Heun equation. In particular, this is done via Bessel matrices of Toeplitz shape that are derived from the coefficients of modified Bessel functions of the first kind. The main results connect the existence of polynomial and analytic solutions of both DEs at the origin to the determinant of the associated Bessel matrix. An appendix studies the non-singularity of this Bessel matrix for small dimensions and small parameters. The motivation for this paper is an earlier conjecture by the authors [Math. Notes 98, No. 5, 714--724 (2015); translation from Mat. Zametki 98, No. 5, 651--663 (2015; Zbl 1345.15008)] that this Bessel matrix is invertible for all dimensions.
