The main result states that for an algebra \(\mathcal A\) of bounded linear operators on a separable Banach space \(X\) there is a closed subspace which is invariant for each \(T\in\mathcal A\), provided, that there exists a nontrivial closed subset \(F\) such that \((e^T)(F) \subset F\) for all \(T\in \mathcal A\). The proof relies on a differentiation argument from [\textit{A.~Atzmon} and \textit{G.~Godefroy}, C.~R. Acad.\ Sci., Paris, Sér.~I, Math.\ 332, No.~2, 151--156 (2001; Zbl 1008.47006)]; the authors point out that the above theorem is in fact a special case of Theorem~2 of that paper. The separability of \(X\) is used only to guarantee the existence of Lipschitz Gâteaux smooth bump functions; hence the main theorem is valid in reflexive spaces and \(L_1\)-spaces over probability measures as well.
