One of the main theorems of the paper under review provides a characterization of equivariant Dirac structures on homogeneous spaces. One is then able to classify the structures of this type on several important classes of homogeneous spaces: Riemannian symmetric spaces, nilpotent orbits in \({\mathfrak s}{\mathfrak l}_n({\mathbb R})\), semisimple orbits in semisimple Lie algebras, and quotients of compact Lie groups by closed connected subgroups containing Cartan subgroups. In the latter situation one obtains generalized complex structures which are neither symplectic nor complex.
