In a left noetherian ring R, Jacobson's conjecture is known to be false in general, that is, the intersections of the finite powers of the Jacobson radical J of R need not be zero, counterexamples are due to Herstein and Jategaonkar. While the conjecture is still open for two- sided noetherian rings, the present paper provides counterexamples for left noetherian rings with a left Morita duality, thus answering in the negative a question raised by \textit{A. V. Jategaonkar} [J. Algebra 69, 358-371 (1981; Zbl 0456.16022)]. However, the author shows that if R is a left principal ideal domain with a left Morita duality, then Jacobson's conjecture does hold. Another question, also due to Jategaonkar, is answered negatively: If R is a semilocal left noetherian ring which is complete in its J-adic topology, such that each factor ring \(R/J^ n\) has a left Morita duality, then R itself need not have a left Morita duality.
