Frames in Hilbert spaces were introduced by \textit{R. J. Duffin} and \textit{A. C. Schaeffer} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 72, 341--366 (1952; Zbl 0049.32401)] in the context of nonharmonic Fourier series. After a couple of years, frames were brought to life by \textit{Daubechies, Grossman} and \textit{Meyer} [J. Math. Phys. 27, 1271--1283 (1986)]. \textit{K. Gröchenig} [Monatsh. Math. 112, No. 1, 1--42 (1991; Zbl 0736.42022)] generalized Hilbert frames to Banach spaces. \textit{P. G. Casazza} et al. [Contemp. Math. 247, 149--182 (1999; Zbl 0947.46010)] showed that a separable Banach space has the bounded approximation property if and only if it has a frame. \textit{D. Han} and \textit{D. R. Larson} [Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 697, 94 p. (2000; Zbl 0971.42023)] introduced the concept of frames as a compression of a basis. \textit{M. Junge} et al. [Adv. Math. 187, No. 2, 257-319 (2004; Zbl 1084.46049)] introduced the notion of cb-basis for operator spaces. In this paper, the authors introduce the notion of cb-frames for operator spaces and show that there is a natural cb-frame for the reduced free group \(C^*\)-algebra \(C^*_r(\mathbb{F}_2)\). Moreover, they show that a separable operator space \(X\) has a cb-frame if and only if it has the completely bounded approximation property if and only if it is completely isomorphic to a completely complemented subspace of an operator space with a cb-basis.
