The authors study \(\mathcal{C}^{1,\alpha}\) solutions of the Monge-Ampére equation \[ {\mathrm Det\,}\nabla^2v:=-\frac 12 \text{curl\,curl}(\nabla v\otimes \nabla v)=f \quad \text{in}\quad\Omega\subset \mathbb{R}^2. \] They investigate the solution set \(\mathcal{C}^{1,\alpha}\) depending on \(\alpha\). One of the main results is the density of the solution set from \(\mathcal{C}^{1,\alpha}(\bar{\Omega})\) in the space \(\mathcal{C}^{0}(\bar{\Omega})\) for \(f\in L^{7/6}(\Omega).\) When \(f\in L^p(\Omega),\;p\in (1,\frac 76)\), then the same result is true for any \(\alpha<1-\frac 1p\). There is a connection between the solutions and the isometric immersions of Riemann metrics appearing in the study of nonlinear elastic plates. Further regularity results are achieved using the convex integration technique.
