This paper discusses the (simplicial) volume of link complements in the 3-sphere. A link is said to be periodic if it is invariant under an orientation-preserving diffeomorphism of the 3-sphere. The authors first give a relation between the complement volumes of a periodic hyperbolic link and its quotient link. As a corollary, the complement volume of a periodic hyperbolic link has a lower bound which is related to the twist number of a diagram of the quotient link. The authors also show that the volume of any periodic link of order \(p\) is bounded below by a function of \(p\). This bound is sharp sometimes. Secondly, the authors discuss links that are composition of prime, alternating tangles. For such links both upper and lower bounds of the volume are given in terms of the twist number. The authors also relate the coefficients of the Jones polynomial and the twist number when a knot admits a special decomposition into alternating tangles. The last result generalizes a result from \textit{O. Dasbach} and \textit{X. Lin} [Pac. J. Math. 231, 279--291 (2007; Zbl 1166.57002)].
