Given a positive unit integrable weight \(w\) on \([-1,\,1]\) and the sequence of corresponding orthonormal polynomials \(\{p_{n}\}_{n\geq 0}\), the Shannon entropy of these polynomials may be defined either as \[ E_{n}=E_{n}(w):=-\int_{-1}^{1}\log\big(p_{n}^{2}(x)\big)\,p_{n}^{2}(x)\,w(x)\,dx, \] or as \[ F_{n}=F_{n}(w):=-\int_{-1}^{1}\log\big(p_{n}^{2}(x)\,w(x)\big)\,p_{n}^{2}(x) \,w(x)\,dx. \] They are obviously related by \(E_{n}(w)-F_{n}(w)=G_{n}(w)\), where \[ G_{n}=G_{n}(w):=\int_{-1}^{1}\log\big(w(x)\big)\,p_{n}^{2}(x)\,w(x)\,dx. \] In this paper the authors deal with the case of symmetric Pollaczek polynomials, \(p_{n}^{\lambda}(x;a)\) and study the asymptotic behavior of the sequences \(E_{n}(w),\;F_{n}(w)\) and \(G_{n}(w)\) as \(n\rightarrow \infty\), when \(w=w_{\lambda}(.;a)\), \(a\geq 0\), \(\lambda\geq 1\), is the corresponding symmetric Pollaczek weight. They show that (1) \(F_{n}(w)=\log(\pi)-1+o(1), \;\;n\rightarrow \infty\) and also that (2) \(G_{n}(w)=-2a\log(n)+2a +\log\Big(\frac{\Gamma(\lambda+a)\Gamma(\lambda+a+1)} {\pi\,\Gamma(2\lambda)}\Big) +o(1), \;\;n\rightarrow \infty\). It is well known that this \(w\) does not belong to the Szegő class. Therefore the result (1) extends the asymptotic behavior of the entropy integral \(F_{n}(w)\) beyond the Szegő class.
