Some weakened versions of the nearly uniformly convexity (NUC) are introduced and it is shown that they are different. A Banach space \(X\) with unit ball \(B\) is called to be \(k\)-\(\beta\), respectively, \((k+1)\)-NUC, if for all \(\varepsilon> 0\) there is a \(\delta> 0\) such that for all \(x\in B\) and all \(\varepsilon\)-distant sequences \((x_n)\subseteq B\) there are subsystems \((x_{n_i})^{k+ 1}_{i=1}\) such that \({1\over k+1}\|x+ \sum^k_{i=1} x_{n_i}\|\leq 1-\delta\), respectively, \({1\over k+1}\|\sum^{k+1}_{i=1} x_{n_i}\|\leq 1-\delta\). It is shown that Schachermayer's space \(X\) and a modified version \(Y\) of it have the properties: \(X\) is a 2-\(\beta\)-space, but it is not isomorphic to \(1\)-\(\beta\)- or to a 2-NUC-space. \(Y\) is a 2-NUC-space, but not isomorphic to an \(1\)-\(\beta\)-space.
