The equation of extremal metrics on toric manifolds can be reduced to a real fourth-order PDE on the Delzant polytope in a real space. This is the Abreu equation. One of the goals of this work is to develop a collection of techniques for the Abreu equation. The authors extend these affine techniques to the complex case successfully. As application of some of these techniques, the authors establish interior estimates and obtain certain convergence results. Furthermore, using these techniques and blow-up analysis the estimate of the norm \(\mathcal{K}\) of the Ricci tensor in a neighborhood of points on edges near the boundary is produced.
