The authors' recent paper [Math. Models Methods Appl. Sci. 26, No. 3, 469--568 (2016; Zbl 1336.35273)] is related with the Navier-Stokes system in \(\mathbb R^d\), \(d=2,3\) and the isentropic constitutive equation \(p(s)= c_p s ^{\gamma}\), \(\gamma >3/2\) for the pressure \(p\); moreover, some assumptions were imposed on the extra-stress tensor \(\tau\). In the present paper are considered \(d=2\), \(\gamma >1\) and a most general \(\tau\). A regularized problem is introduced, where \(p_k(s)=p(s) + k(s^4 + s^{\Gamma})\), \(k \geq 0\) and \( \Gamma = \max \{\gamma,8 \}\), \(\gamma > 1\). Some a priori estimates of the density, the pressure and the probability density function associated to the extra-stress tensor are obtained. The previous result is used and by passing to the limit with \(k \rightarrow 0\), is obtained the existence of a global-time weak solution for the initial problem in the case \(d=2\), \(\gamma >1\). The Lebesgue interpolation result, the Gagliardo-Nieremberg inequality, the Maxwellian-weighted spaces and the Aubin-Lions-Simon compactness result are used.
