The paper addresses the stability analysis of multi-term fractional differential equations described by the Caputo derivatives. This paper's contributions are to establish necessary and sufficient conditions for asymptotic stability and instability of the multi-term fractional differential equations when the orders of the Caputo derivatives are chosen arbitrarily inside a domain with certain constraints and when the orders of the Caputo derivatives are chosen arbitrarily without any constraints. Several examples are presented to support the main findings of the present paper. For the determination of the characteristical function of the considered multi-term fractional differential equations, the Laplace transform plays an important role in the present investigations.
