Let \(\mathcal F\) be a family of subgroups of a group \(G\). The notion of a \textit{finitely \(\mathcal F\)-amenable} \(G\)-action was introduced by \textit{A. Bartels} [Proc. Math. Stat. 184, 1--31 (2016; Zbl 1434.19002)] to give an axiomatic definition of the key properties used to prove the Farrell-Jones conjecture for hyperbolic groups [\textit{A. Bartels} et al., Invent. Math. 172, No. 1, 29--70 (2008; Zbl 1143.19003)]. Bartels [loc. cit.] remarks without a proof that Rufus Willet and Guoliang Yu pointed out that the existence of a finitely \(\mathcal F\)-amenable \(G\)-action on a compact metrizable space implies that the group \(G\) has finite asymptotic dimension, provided there is a uniform bound on the asymptotic dimension of groups in \(\mathcal F\). The authors give a proof for this statement including a precise bound on the asymptotic dimension of \(G\). Their main result also generalizes this statement from finite asymptotic dimension to other properties of metric spaces that satisfy certain permanence properties. Examples of such properties are weak finite decomposition complexity introduced by \textit{E. Guentner} et al. [Invent. Math. 189, No. 2, 315--357 (2012; Zbl 1257.57028)], exactness and coarse embeddability into Hilbert space. By a result of \textit{A. Bartels} [Compos. Math. 153, No. 4, 745--779 (2017; Zbl 1366.18012)], the result in particular applies to relatively hyperbolic groups.
