Let \(G\) be a unimodular group acting properly, freely and cocompactly by biholomorphisms on a complex manifold \(M\) with strongly pseudoconvex boundary \(bM\) and suppose that, for some \(p\in bM,\) we have \(T_p(G \cdot p) \subset T_p(bM)\cap iT_p(bM).\) It is shown that the \(G\)-dimension of the Bergman space \(L^2\mathcal{O}(M)\) is infinite. The authors show that the above assumptions imply that the action of \(G\) in \(M\) is amenable and apply a result of the second author [Ann. Global Anal. Geom. 37, No. 1, 1--20 (2010; Zbl 1191.32005)] to get that \(L^2\mathcal{O}(M)\) is infinite-\(G\)-dimensional. The method of analyzing the Bergman space is derived from the self-adjoint boundary problem for the \(\overline \partial\)-Neumann Laplacian \(\overline \partial \overline \partial^* + \overline \partial^* \overline \partial.\) In particular, the authors use the fact that, for \(q>0,\) the \(\overline \partial\)-Neumann Laplacian in \(L^2(M, \Lambda^{p,q})\) has the \(G\)-Fredholm property. In order to verify that the action of \(G\) is amenable, one has to estimate certain integrals with parameters performed on the group \(G.\) Since these estimates have a local character the Heisenberg group \(H_n\) acts as an important model. It turns out that the general case is a sufficiently small perturbation of this Heisenberg group case to preserve the divergent behavior of the involved integrals.
