The second Yamabe invariant (Q2493037): Difference between revisions

The authors introduce and study the second Yamabe invariant as the infimum of the second eigenvalue of the Yamabe operator over the Riemannian metrics conformal to the given one and of volume 1. In particular, whether the invariant can be attained is discussed. Enlarging the conform class up to the generalized metrics and using a new method the authors succeeded in finding nodal solutions of the Yamabe equation on a large class of manifolds.
