Let \(k\) be an odd integer. The set of solutions of the equation \(x^ 2+2^ k=y^ n\), in positive integers \(x,y,n\) with \(n\geq 3\) is completely described. The crucial point in the proof is that the fundamental unit of the field \(\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{a^ 2+2^ k})\) can be expressed in terms of \(a\).
