This paper deals with the investigation of electromagnetic scattering from anisotropic inhomogeneous bounded media by means of integral equations. For the case of an orthotropic medium the author derives the Lippmann-Schwinger equation, which is equivalent to a system of strongly singular integral equations. Note that due to the anisotropic structure this equation no longer has the form ``identity operator plus a compact operator''. The author studies the uniqueness and the existence of solutions of a system of singular integral equations in \(L^2(\mathbb{R}^2)\). Moreover he derives regularity properties of the solution, that is, he develops the existence theory in \(H^l (\mathbb{R}^2)\), \(l\geq 1\).
