A computational algorithm for minimizing the norm of state feedback controllers in arbitrary eigenvalue assignment is presented. The algorithm makes use of vector companion forms and gives insight into the mechanism by which parametric eigenvalue assignment is affected. Several low-order numerical examples are presented to illustrate the advantages of this algorithm, which easily computes the controller gain matrix with minimum norm. A MATLAB program implementing the algorithm is developed.
