Let \(\mathcal F\) be a foliation on a compact manifold \(M\). It is shown that either \(\mathcal F\) is a Seifert fibration (all leaves are compact with finite holonomy) or \(\mathcal F\) has uncountably many non-compact leaves in each of two cases: \(\mathcal F\) has codimension 2; \(\mathcal F\) is oriented and there is a closed \(p\)-form \(\omega\) on \(M\) such that \(\int_L\omega >0\) for each compact leaf \(L\), where \(p=\text{dim}\mathcal F\). More general, but more technical, results are also presented.
