This paper is devoted to extending the classical duality theory of Banach and operator spaces to normal operator bimodules over von Neumann algebras. Let \(X\) be an operator bimodule over von Neumann algebras \(A\subseteq B(H)\) and \(B\subseteq B(K)\). By the bimodule dual of \(X\) we mean the space of all completely bounded \(A,B\)-bimodule maps from \(X\) into \(B(K,H)\). The author first extends a known duality result of \textit{D. P. Blecher} and \textit{R. R. Smith} [J. Lond. Math. Soc. (2) 45, No.~1, 126--144 (1992; Zbl 0712.46029)] for the Haagerup tensor product of normal operator bimodules and then relates the bimodule dual of the extended module Haagerup tensor product to the normal version of the Haagerup tensor product studied by \textit{E. G. Effros} and \textit{Z.--J. Ruan} [J. Oper. Theory 50, No.~1, 131--156 (2003; Zbl 1036.46042)]. It is also shown that the closure \(X_n\) of the image of \(X\) in its bimodule bidual is a normal operator \(A,B\)-bimodule, the so-called normal part of \(X\), which has the following universal property: for each completely bounded \(A,B\)-bimodule map \(\varphi\) from \(X\) to a normal operator \(A,B\)-bimodule \(Y\), there exists a unique \(A,B\)-bimodule map \(\widetilde{\varphi}\) from \(X_n\) into \(Y\) such that \(\varphi=\widetilde{\varphi}\iota\) where \(\iota\) denotes the canonical map from \(X\) into \(X_n\). The paper also describes \(X_n\) in terms of biduals of \(X, A\) and \(B\).
