Let \(S\subset {\mathbb R}^2\) be a bounded domain with \(C^{1, \alpha}\) boundary, where \(\alpha >0\). In the first part of this paper the authors consider \(y\in W^{2,2}(S,{\mathbb R}^3)\) an isometric immersion, i.e., \(({\nabla} y)^T{\nabla} y=\text{Id}\) almost everywhere and show that \(y\) is \(C^1\) up to the boundary, with a logarithmic modulus of continuity. More generally, they show that \(C^1\) regularity up to the boundary holds for all scalar functions \(V\in W^{2,2}(S)\) which satisfy det\({\nabla}^2V=0\) (see Section 3). Finally, in Section 4 the authors show that if \(S\) has only Lipschitz boundary and det\({\nabla}^2V=0\), then \(V\) can be approximated in \(W^{2,2}(S)\) by functions \(V_k\in W^{1, \infty}\cap W^{2,2}\) with det\({\nabla}^2V_k=0\) (Theorem 11).
