The principle of the constancy of the velocity of light propagation is used to introduce a differentiable structure on the universe of events E. Namely, using a theorem proved by \textit{I. Popovici} and the second author [Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Nouv. Sér., Sect. A 35, 131-148 (1981; Zbl 0476.51014)] and some axioms imposed to E it is shown how E can be endowed with an atlas such that the coordinate transformations between the charts of this atlas are given by conformal (or Weyl) transformations.
