The authors proves a Thom isomorphism theorem for one-parameter crossed products on the level of cyclic cohomology. More precisely, let \(H^*({\mathcal A})\) denote cyclic cohomology for a Fréchet algebra \({\mathcal A}\) as defined in \textit{A. Connes}, Publ. Math. Inst. Hautes Etud. Sci. 62, 41-144 (1985; Zbl 0592.46056) and let \(\alpha\) :\({\mathbb{R}}\to Aut({\mathcal A})\) be a smooth action with corresponding crossed product \({\mathcal A}\times_{\alpha}{\mathbb{R}}\). Then the following results hold: There is a natural map \[ \#_{\alpha}:H^*({\mathcal A})\to H^{*+1}({\mathcal A}\times_{\alpha}{\mathbb{R}}) \] defining isomorphisms \[ H^{ev}({\mathcal A})\cong H^{odd}({\mathcal A}\times_{\alpha}{\mathbb{R}}),\quad H^{odd}({\mathcal A})\cong H^{ev}({\mathcal A}\times_{\alpha}{\mathbb{R}}). \] In particular, the trivial action gives \[ H^*({\mathcal A}\times {\mathcal S}({\mathbb{R}}))\cong H^{*+1}({\mathcal A}) \] (\({\mathcal S}({\mathbb{R}})\) the Schwartz space), and a smooth version of Takesaki-Takai duality which is used in the proof yields \[ H^*({\mathcal A})\cong H^*({\mathcal A}\times {\mathcal K}^{\infty}) \] (\({\mathcal K}^{\infty}\) the algebra of smooth compact operators). The relation with Connes' Thom isomorphism in K-theory is also exhibited. Here \({\mathcal A}\) is the algebra of smooth elements in a \(C^*\)-algebra A with respect to an action \(\alpha\) :\({\mathbb{R}}\to Aut(A)\).
