The author studies singularities of Sobolev mappings in a general framework. The author considers only those kinds of singularities that can be seen from the energy, thus arising as obstructions to the approximation by smooth maps. The goal of the author is to classify and to understand such singularities. More precisely, for a given \(f\in W^{1,p}(M,N)\), the author wants to know how to represent or express the local and the global singularities. Is it possible to define \(W^{1,p}\)-invariants of Sobolev maps (that is, stable under small perturbation with respect to the \(W^{1,p}\)-topology) which express these singularities in analytical and/or algebraic terms? Here, \(M\) and \(N\) are the compact Riemannian manifolds with dimensions \(m\) and \(n\), respectively.
