This article aims to find finite element approximations for surfaces of prescribed variable mean curvature \(H(u)\) at each point \(u\), where the boundary \(\Gamma\) is possibly knotted. The authors begin by presenting an introduction where all the mathematical background is explored and then proceed to present the variational problem to be studied. An extensive and very detailed proof of the main theorem is presented next, which forms the majority of this paper, together with a series of interesting propositions and lemmas. The article concludes with extensive numerical experimentation using the proposed algorithm.
