The author considers two famous Rogers-Ramanujan identities that are \(q\)-series identities with deep connections with several other branches of mathematics. Many different proofs of these identities are known, one of these proofs uses the Hall-Littlewood functions (an important class of symmetric functions). In [\textit{G. E. Andrews}, \textit{A. Schilling} and \textit{S. O. Warnaar}, J. Am. Math. Soc. 12, No. 3, 677--702 (1999; Zbl 0917.05010)], the two Rogers-Ramanujan identities are generalized to identities in terms of Lie algebras. An interesting question is whether these generalized identities can be understood in terms of the Hall-Littlewood functions. The author applied the theory of Hall-Littlewood functions to give a proof of the generalized Lie algebra identities.
