The paper is concerned with the existence of a positive solution to the eigenvalue system for \(0<t<1\) \[ \begin{cases} x''+\lambda f_1(t,x,y)=0,\\ x''+\lambda f_2(t,x,y)=0, \end{cases} \] subject to the boundary conditions \[ \begin{cases} x(0)=0=x(1)-\alpha_1 x(\eta_1),\\ x(0)=0=x(1)-\alpha_2 x(\eta_2),\end{cases} \] where \(\alpha_1,\;\alpha_2\in[0,1),\) \(\eta_1,\,\eta_2\in(0,1)\) and \(\lambda\in\mathbb{R}.\) The nonlinearities \(f_1\) and \(f_2\) satisfy certain super-linear conditions and may take negative values. Using the fixed point index, the author proves the existence of at least one positive solution for small enough \(\lambda>0.\)
