This paper concerns the Landau-de Gennes \(Q\)-tensor model for nematic liquid crystals in a two-dimensional domain with small elastic constant. The behavior of the minimizers with well-prepared Dirichlet boundary data is carefully studied. Among other things it is proved that the minimizing configurations can be described by the classical Oseen-Frank director field model for nematic liquid crystals, which gives a good description of the relation between the two models.
