Denote by \(\zeta(s, \alpha)\) the Hurwitz zeta function where as usual \(s = \sigma + it \in\mathbb{C}\) and \(0 < \alpha\leq 1\). Let \(D := \{s\in \mathbb{C}: \frac12 < \sigma < 1\}\) and denote by \(H(D)\) the space of analytic functions on \(D\) endowed with the topology of uniform convergence. The authors prove a discrete universality theorem on the approximation of functions \(f\in H(D)\) by discrete shifts (in the \(t\)-variable) of \(\zeta(s, \alpha)\). This is done by imposing a new hypothesis on the parameter \(\alpha\) which generalizes the transcendence condition.
