The authors study a version of the Taylor polynomial and upon using an appropirate weighted Poincaré inequality and a cancellation property, they obtain optimal approximation estimates for constant and linear approximation. They extend these results to any polynomial degree by an induction argument to obtain some optimal error estimates. These estimates are derived in the weighted Sobolev spaces with Muckenhoupt weights. Some interesting applications are given.
