The authors call a boundary condition a one-point condition if it has the form \(x^{(i)}(0)= 0\) or \(x^{(i)}(1)= 0\) and a two-point condition if it has the form \(\alpha x^{(i+1)}(0)=\beta x^{(i)}(0)= 0\) with \(\alpha,\beta>0\) or \(\gamma x^{(i+1)}(1)+\delta x^{(i)}(1)= 0\) with \(\gamma,\delta>0\). They consider the boundary value problem \[ \begin{aligned} x^{(n)}(t)= f(t)\quad &\text{for }t\in [0,1],\\ l_ix=0\quad &\text{for }1\leq i\leq n,\end{aligned}\tag{\(*\)} \] where \(f\in L([0,1],\mathbb{R})\) and \(l_i\) is a one- or two-point boundary condition. They derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the solvability of \((*)\).
