    The authors study the following nonlocal elliptic equations: \[ -a\bigg(\int_\Omega |u|^\gamma dx \bigg) \Delta u = f_\lambda (x,u), \quad u(x)>0, \quad\text{for}\quad x\in \Omega, \qquad u|_{\partial{\Omega}}=0, \tag{P} \] where \(\Omega \subset \mathbb{R}^N\) is a smooth bounded domain, \(\gamma>0\), \(a(t) \in C([0,+\infty), (0,+\infty))\) and \(f_\lambda (x,u)\) is an \(L^p\)-Carathéodory function, \(\lambda \in \mathbb{R}\) is a parameter. The authors prove first a general existence theorem for problem (P) by assuming that there exist a subsolution and a supersolution which are well-ordered. Based on this result and bifurcation theory, they obtain some further results on existence and multiplicity of postive solutions for problem (P), for different types of \(f_\lambda (x,u)\), such as \(f_\lambda (x,u)=\lambda u^q+u^p\), or \(f_\lambda (x,u)= \lambda u +f(x,u)\), or \(f_\lambda (x,u)=\lambda u^q-K(x)u^{-\mu}\).
