The authors analyze the convergence properties of the flexible BiCGStab algorithm, describe factors that affect its convergence, and provide a guidance on its use in practice. They show that the convergence behavior is close to that of the fixed preconditioning case if the perturbation to the preconditioner is not too large. Their analysis is different from that for other flexible Krylov methods in the literature because of the loose connection of the BiCGStab with the associated Krylov subspace.
