Let \(S\) be an abelian semigroup with cancellation and with a neutral element, and without non-trivial subgroups, and let \(C^*_{r}(S)\) be its reduced \(C^*\)-algebra. Let \(\Gamma\) denote the symmetrization group of \(S\), then \(C^*_{r}(S)\) has a natural \(\Gamma\)-grading. An ideal \(J\subset C^*_{r}(S)\) is called invariant if it respects this \(\Gamma\)-grading. The paper provides several results about invariant ideals in \(C^*_r(S)\), in particular, it is shown that the commutator ideal is the maximal invariant ideal of \(C^*_r(S)\). As an example, it is shown that, if \(S=\{a\in\mathbb R:a>1\}\cup\{0\}\), then \(C^*_r(S)\) has two invariant ideals.
