The authors study the space $X^{y,p}$ of functions in the Lebesgue space $L^p$ with derivative of logarithmic order in $L^p$. They show a sharp Sobolev embedding inequality for the Banach space $X^{y,p}$ that is defined by means of a Gagliardo-type seminorm, and they also prove an approximation result in Lusin's sense and an interpolation inequality between the Lebesgue space $L^p$, $X^{y,p}$, and the Sobolev space $W^{s,p}$. Moreover, they consider another class of functions, called $N^{1,p}$, defined by \textit{P. Hajłasz} [Contemp. Math. 338, 173--218 (2003; Zbl 1048.46033)], and give a characterization of this space in terms of a finiteness of a suitable discrete logarithmic Dirichlet energy. Finally, the authors study weak differentiability properties of functions in $N^{1,p}$ and they establish a link with the introduced space $X^{y,p}$.
