More than 40 years ago, \textit{O. Diekmann} studied in a series of papers [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 1, 459--470 (1977; Zbl 0371.92024); J. Math. Biol. 6, 109--130 (1978; Zbl 0415.92020); J. Differ. Equations 33, 58--73 (1979; Zbl 0377.45007)] a nonlinear integral equation of convolution type in \(n\) spatial and one time variables which describes the spread of epidemics. In this paper, the authors prove existence for monotone and bounded solutions and illustrate the abstract results by a series of interesting examples.
