In the present paper, the authors study both theoretical and numerical analysis of the initial-boundary value problem for the generalized Landau-Khalatnikov equation. The authors prove the existence and uniqueness of the solution. The authors compare the generalized Landau-Khalatnikov equation with some well-known modifications. Also, the authors compare the results of the numerical simulation of the polarization-electric field hysteresis loops for barium titanate with experimental data. Taking into account some given conditions, the authors prove the unique solvability of the initial-boundary value problem. In order to solve the initial-boundary value problem given in the paper, the authors apply an implicit finite difference method combined with an iterative procedure by constructing the finite difference scheme. As a result of numerical simulation of the polarization switching in thin film of barium titanate, the author obtain an interesting fact.
