In this paper the author takes up the study of the problem of best parametric spline interpolation as posed by \textit{H.-J. Töpfer} [Numer. Math. 59, 209-224 (1982; Zbl 0481.65008)] and \textit{S. P. Marin} [J. Approximation Theory 41, 64-86 (1984; Zbl 0558.41006)]. He rephrases the problem and also adopts an alternate approach to extend it and to study it for more general parameters. Various theorems on the existence of unique solutions are given. He discusses the relation of the problem studied to other problems of best interpolation as well where the related study is performed with respect to the curvature or a certain class of \(\beta\)-splines.
