The authors study the Riemann problem for the Euler system for the Chaplygin gas in one spatial dimension. Exact solutions are obtained for any initial values. Then the perturbed Riemann solutions are constructed: initial profiles consist of three constant parts, the middle one short. Finally, the limit, as this part tends to zero, is studied. Structure of the typical solution is described, being made of special waves.
