The paper presents an extension of linear algebra results that provide a computational path to obtain generalized constitutive relations with applications to 2D strain-gradient elasticity. It is well known that the formulation of the linear constitutive relations in strain-gradient elasticity requires not only a symmetric fourth order-tensor but also higher-order (fifth- and sixth-order) tensors with various symmetries. The authors obtained a parametrization of the generic linear constitutive relations by using \(n\)th-order harmonic tensors, here defined as totally symmetric and traceless tensors. An application to classical elasticity and an extension to strain-gradient elasticity are presented, and the relations of the obtained decompositions with symmetry classes are also discussed.
