The authors discuss a linear virtual element method for the approximation of the Kirchhoff plate buckling eigenvalue problem subject to the Dirichlet boundary condition. The approach relies on introducing an auxiliary variable, and constructing a piecewise linear and lower regular virtual element space. Classical spectral theory for compact operators is employed in order to deal with the continuous and discrete solution operators and their corresponding eigenvaules.
