The construction of a cosh-based smoothing function leads to the investigation of the boundedness of the iteration sequence generated by the smoothing methods for solving the nonlinear complementarity problem with a \(P_0\) function. The authors propose a Newton method by using a nonmonotone line search technique to solve the nonlinear complementarity problem. The global convergence of the proposed method is proved under certain assumptions. The local convergence of the proposed method is not yet established. The efficiency of the proposed method is illustrated by some numerical experiments on some test problems.
