Identify \(\mathbb{C}^n\) with \(\mathbb{R}^{2n}\) to embed the round sphere \(S^{2n-1}\) in \(\mathbb{C}^n\). Given integers \(\vec p=(p_1,\dots,p_n)\) which are coprime to an integer \(q\), we let \(\mathbb{Z}_q\) act on \(S^{2n-1}\) by \((z_1,\dots,z_n)\rightarrow(e^{2\pi\sqrt{-1}p_1/q}z_1,\dots,e^{2\pi\sqrt{-1}p_n/q}z_n)\). The action is fixed point free, and the quotient, which is denoted by \(L(\vec p;q)\), is a lens space. The eigenvalues of the Laplacian on the sphere \(S^{2n-1}\) may be identified with the restriction of the homogeneous harmonic polynomials on \(\mathbb{C}^n\) to the sphere where the degree of the polynomial in question controls the relevant eigenvalue; the homogeneous harmonic polynomials which are invariant under the given action of \(\mathbb{Z}_q\) then provide the spectral resolution of the Laplacian on \(L(\vec p;q)\). The associated \textit{primary lattice group} is the collection of all integers \(\vec a=(a^1,\dots,a^n)\) so that \(\sum_ip_ia^i\equiv0\) mod \(q\). The primary lattice group is used to study the spectral geometry of the lens space in question and various consequences derived. Section~1 is an introduction to the matter at hand. Section~2 presents relationships between the analysis and the geometry of the lens space in question. | |||
