The authors consider the differential equation \[ y'' = f(t,y,y'), \leqno{(1)} \] where \(f : [a,\omega )\times \Delta Y_{0}\times \Delta Y_{1} \rightarrow {\mathbb R}\) is a continuous function, \(-\infty <a<\omega \leq +\infty \), \(\Delta Y_{i}\) is a one-sided neighborhood of \(Y_{i}\), \(i=0,1\), where \(Y_i\) is either zero or \(\pm \infty \). They establish the asymptotic representation as \(t\rightarrow \omega\, (\omega \leq +\infty )\) of a class of solutions tending to \(Y_{i}\). The function \(f(t,y,y')\) is approximated as follows \[ f(t,z_{0}(t),z_{1}(t)) = \pm p(t)\varphi _{0}(z_{0}(t))\varphi _{1}(z_{1}(t)(1+o(1)) \; \text{as} \; t\rightarrow \omega \] where the intervening functions possess certain properties (essentially that of regularity in the sense of Karamata).
