In this article, the author focuses on a special class of ODE's which belongs to the so called parametric Painlevé equations. The main property of this type of equations is that their general solutions can be written in a parametric form in terms of the Painlevé transcendents. In particular, by similarity reduction of the short pulse equation \[ \, u_{xt}=u + \frac{1}{6}\,(u^3)_{xx} \, \] the author shows that the consistency condition for the corresponding Fuchs-Garnier pair yields the following parametric Painlevé equation \[ w''=w + \frac{1}{6}\,(w^3)'',\tag{*} \] which does not possess the Painlevé property. By a slight generalization of the corresponding isomonodromy problem he arrives at a parametric representation of equation (*) in terms of the third Painlevé transcendent.
