The authors consider the von Karman equations describing the flexure of a thin isotropic plate in a plain domain with several small holes of the diameter \(O(\epsilon)\). They construct a model of the von Karman problem in a singularly perturbed domain \(\Omega (\epsilon)\) whose solution \((v^{\epsilon},w^{\epsilon})\) approximates with high accuracy the solution of the Dirichlet problem for the von Karman equations. The authors make use of the asymptotic analysis of the problem, that is based on the method of composite asymptotic expansions. Indeed they consider asymptotic expansions for solutions after for the Dirichlet problem for the biharmonic equations appearing in the linearization of the von Karman problem at the trivial solution (Kirchhoff model) in \(\Omega (\epsilon)\) and before for the nonlinear problem. In the last one case they consider the Dirichlet problem in nonstandard spaces of functions, replacing the original problem in \(\Omega (\epsilon)\) with a simpler intermediate problem in the punctured domain \(\Omega\backslash\mathcal P\). In this way they prove the existence and uniqueness of the solution of the Dirichlet problem for the von Karman equations showing that the solutions to the boundary value problem in the singularly perturbed domain \(\Omega (\epsilon)\) converge very slowly to the solution of the limit problems in \(\Omega\). This paper give us one of non many results concerning the asymptotic behaviour of solutions to the boundary value problems for nonlinear equations. | |||
