A higher differentiability result has been established for quasilinear elliptic systems of the kind \(\mathrm{div}A(x,\nabla u)=0\). The domain is a bounded open set in the plane and the coefficients may be discontinuous in the second argument. The kind of discontinuity can described in the following way. There exists \(k\in L^2(\Omega)\) such that \[ |A(x,\xi) - A(y,\xi)| \leq (|k(x)|+|k(y)|)|x-y|(1+|\xi|)\,. \]
