The authors introduce a generalization of the Becker-Doering-type model from [\textit{W. Dreyer} and \textit{F. Duderstadt}, J. Stat. Phys. 123, No. 1, 55--87 (2006; Zbl 1092.82025)] that additionally accounts for an inert substance. In the mathematical part they prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions under certain assumptions on the condensation and evaporization rates; they also study equilibrium states and compare both their results and methods with those from [\textit{J. M. Ball} et al., Commun. Math. Phys. 104, 657--692 (1986; Zbl 0594.58063)] and [\textit{M. Herrmann} et al., Physica D 222, No. 1--2, 116--130 (2006; Zbl 1139.82329)].
